About Us

More about Castle LGV Training

Castle LGV Training is a family run business which has been providing high quality and informative LGV training in the Chichester area since 1980. We pride ourselves on providing 1:1 training with our experienced instructors for people who are learning for the first time or for experienced drivers wanting to update their qualifications with CPC training.

Castle LGV Training was first founded by retired firefighter, Malcolm Mackay, back in 1980. Over the years Malcolm and his team have trained hundreds of people allowing them to start their careers in various industries such as firefighters, ambulance drivers, paramedics, long distance lorry drivers, refuse collectors….the list goes on!

The business is now operated by husband and wife duo, Neil and Nikki. Neil is a retired firefighter and Nikki has had an extensive career in business management. Castle LGV Training has a team of 10 people who are all dedicated in helping you to achieve your goals of becoming an LGV driver. Find out more about the team below!

Meet the team

Neil Mackay

Managing Director & LGV Instructor

I started my career in the LGV business working for Dyno-Rod however, from a young age I was always exposed to the LGV world as my Dad, Malcolm, set up the business before I was born! I was also in the fire brigade for nearly 14 years but wanted to start my own business with the skills I had learnt at Dyno-Rod. Once my Dad became eligible for his free bus pass, he handed the reins of Castle LGV Training over to me! I am now the Managing Director, LGV Instructor, fully qualified 3a and 4 assessor and hold an ADI qualification. If I'm not in the office, you'll find me with a glass of Drambuie in hand, eating a mixed grill!

 Nikki Mackay

Operations Manager

As Operations Manager at Castle LGV Training my aim is to ensure every client receives the best service possible. From their initial call with us to when they successfully complete their driver training! I have over 20 years of experience working in the industry as recruitment manager, officer manager and team leader. You’ll find me in the office surrounded by cups of tea and biscuits so I am always ready for a chat on the phone should you need any information about the courses we provide.

Malcolm Mackay

Founder & LGV Instructor

Having co founded 1st Castle, Bognor & Chichester in 1980, building up the car instruction side, I then added the LGV side of the school in 1990! I enjoyed the truck training side so much, in 2002 I stopped training on cars to focus on the larger vehicles. After 42 years of very enjoyable driver training I am now passing the business on to my son Neil & his wife Nikki. I’m still very much involved, just not in the day to day running which has ruled my life for so long! This now gives me more time for my hobby of tinkering with old cars!

Kayleigh Mackay

Marketing Manager

As Marketing Manager at Castle LGV Training I manage all our social media channels, marketing activity and general advertising inquiries. I have over 15 years of experience working in the creative marketing world having worked at various agencies across the South Coast. If I’m not in the office you’ll most likely find me walking my miniature sausage dog, Roman, with my son or sharing a cup of tea and a biscuit with Nikki!

Rod Chatfield

LGV Instructor

I have held my LGV/PCV license for over 32 years, so have traveled around most of the UK and some of Europe as a driver. It was a childhood ambition to drive trucks and be a long distance Lorry Driver, so I was living my dream! I enjoy my 4x4 off road trialing, or riding my Motorcycle.

If I’m not in the office, I’m at our field with our horse, Patsy and our little Labradoodle, Ruby & just being outside!

Andy

LGV Instructor

I achieved all initial driving qualifications and experience during my service within the Royal Navy where I served for 10 years in the Fleet Air Arm. I then joined the Fire Service where amongst my many roles I was part of the driver training and standards team. I gained further teaching, assessing and quality assurance qualifications which enabled me to coach and examine students under emergency service blue light conditions. Following my 30 years’ service I joined the wonderful team here at Castle. If I’m not in the office you’ll find me on the South Downs, on the beach, in the gym or enjoying food and beers with friends and family.

Calum MacNeil MacLeod
LGV Instructor

As an instructor at Castle LGV training, I have a wealth of experience to pass on to prospective Drivers.

Having held my LGV licence for over 30 years, I've been able to drive all over the Continent from Northern Norway to North Africa and as far as Athens, carrying everything from fish to Formula 1 Cars and a Land Speed record car.

Out of those 30+ years, 22 of them I have been an Instructor previously owning my own training company. I am a passionate Motorcyclist with an advanced rider qualification. I can also be found in the kitchen cooking everyday (previous career as Merchant Navy Cook)

for my long suffering Wife of 32 years.

My advice to Trainees Mirrors Mirrors!
