About Castle LGV Training

Castle LGV Training is a family run business which has been providing high quality and informative LGV training in the Chichester area since 1980. We pride ourselves on providing 1:1 training with our experienced instructors for people who are learning for the first time or for experienced drivers wanting to update their qualifications with CPC training. CPC is necessary for LGV drivers to keep themselves qualified and licenced and must be taken every 5 years. The course takes 35 hours to complete and is required by EU directive 2003/59.

We work on an individual basis to get the best out of you as we appreciate people learn at different speeds. At Castle LGV we provide training for C1, C1+E, Cat C, Cat C+E, and CPC training. We also offer refresher training for any of the above courses if you already hold this licence. B+E car and trailer driver training is also available through us.

Frequently asked questions

  • How much does LGV training cost?

We offer many different courses over different lengths, our standard prices are shown on the specific licence category pages.

  • How long does it take to learn to drive an LGV?

We offer various course time frames ranging from 15 - 35 hours. This is all dependent on  which course you do. This is spread over 4/5 days, with the test included on the last day.

  • Can you go straight to a Class 1 LGV training course?

Yes. You can now go directly to C+E (Class 1) with only the one driving test!

  • Do I really need a Driver CPC?

If you intend to use your LGV driving licence commercially (for hire or reward) you must have this  qualification. The Driver CPC is enforced on the road in the same way as holding an appropriate driving licence and it can be an offence to drive without it.

  • At what age can I learn to drive a truck?

18 (it used to be 21 until it was reduced to 18 on 10th of September 2009).

  • Can I learn to drive a truck using my car licence?

No. You will need to apply to the DVLA for provisional entitlement of the correct category to be added to your licence. Please read our 'How it Works' section for more information on how to start your LGV training journey.

  • How many people are in the cab whilst learning?

We offer 1 on 1 training as standard on all our courses. With CPC however, you may be training with another learner.
